Found by Fred Born likely prior to 1984. During a conversation with Organic Gardening Magazine about overwintering fig trees, the interviewer alerted Fred to the location of this unique tree. Fred went and obtained cuttings from the man living on the south side of Chicago. The tree was on the owner's property when he acquired it. The tree was unprotected in the winter and had a trunk diameter of 4-6 inches. Fred is fairly certain that he provided the original Hardy Chicago cuttings to Edible Landscaping which widely distributed this unique fig.
Wholesale Chicago Hardy
Trees are shipped live. Occassionally, they are damaged, although this happens quite infrequently. Many times, if they are damaged, the damaged or pruned area will spur regrowth.
We can fit most one gallon fig trees into USPS priority mail boxes. Prices for shipping of these boxes is either $16.10 for a medium or $21.50 for the large. Typically, we can fit two trees in a large flat rate box and will combine shipping on orders of two.
