The Pastilliere (also called Pastilliere, Pastellère, or Hirta du Japon) is a self-fertile fig variety prized for its bright purple skin and strawberry‑colored, flavorful flesh Raintree Nursery. It is often described as having a berry-like taste reminiscent of blueberries and blackberries, with a unique blend of fruity, tropical, sweet, and slightly acidic notes.
 
Origin and History
The variety’s origin is uncertain but is widely believed to be a Japanese cultivar (Hirta del Giappone), introduced into Europe in the 19th century Raintree Nursery+1. It was first recorded in Japan in the early 1800s by botanist M. de Sieboldii, later named by Italian botanist Gasparrini in 1845 for its downy fuzz on fruits and leaves. It became popular in France, especially in the Toulouse region, and is now grown in many temperate climates.
